April - Piano Recital, Birthday Fun, Swimming and Bowling

Here is April in one go!
It has been so nice having Sam living so close! We can't get enough of her visits! Here they are on the trail - hiking right by our house!

Maddy started piano in February and is taking off! Here she is at her first piano recital. She was a little nervous (I was always SO nervous) but she did great! She was a little frustrated that she missed a couple notes (she had it down pat at home) but we think it was fabulous!

Tulips and cherry trees ... spring is coming!

In school they often have to listen to the teacher's directions and draw what she says on their paper. Always fun to see how they are all so similar but also have their own flare. :)

Flowers and shapes

The girls are so excited to see the flowers come up! They helped me plant the tulips and daffodils last fall. We bought the CostCo size bag of bulbs so ... we have a few tulips coming up!

Maddy's art show is always fun. Here is one of my favorites

Living the life.

We went to Pietro's Pizza again for a birthday party. The kids cleaned up with tickets. Each green ball is worth 50 tickets ...

... she got another one ...

... and the blue ones are worth 100! She was very good at that claw game!

She and a friend built a wall out of cups ... woah.

Hooray for Spring!

Sam came in town to teach Maddy's brownie troop about safety when hiking. They were earning their first aid badge so we had two nurses and a fire fighter come talk. They learned a lot!

Spring soccer has started so Evelyn filled her time by picking flowers.

I am so excited! My garden beds are ready for planting! We moved them to the other side of the house for better sun. We can't wait to see what we can grow over here!

Both girls did tumbling this spring and loved it.

Love this photo. I love the story behind it more.
Evelyn earned a trip to Fro Yo by going to bed all on her own (she had gotten used to me sitting there until she fell asleep and some days took longer than others). She asked if she could share her Fro Yo trip with Maddy as her birthday present to her. Well ... my heart just melted. Love these two!

April 20th finally arrived!
Maddy asked to be taken out for a nice steak dinner as her birthday present ... but you have to have something to open on your birthday so she got a little gift from us.

light up tennis shoes!

Here is our 9 year old! How did this happen? Last single digit birthday for this kid!

Birthday greetings at the bus stop!

Maddy's birthday was on a Thursday so we couldn't do something big but we had a mini surprise party. I organized with a couple friends and her teacher and she had no idea! She has been asking to go get a unicorn frapuccino from Starbucks and I kept saying no ... because we were saving it for her birthday instead! We grabbed some of her besties and waited in the long line for this crazy drink. Here is their before photo (posed by them! haha!)

The excitement builds ...

And they go wild!

Maddy didn't want a regular cake for her birthday so she made herself a trifle. Ice cream (instead of custard), strawberries, lemon pound cake, whipped cream, chocolate fudge, nuts and cherries. Yum!

On Friday night we went to Laurelhurst Market for a delicious steak birthday dinner. Happy birthday Maddy!

The birthday continued the next day (Saturday)! Maddy and her friend Libby have birthdays within days of each other so they organized having a joint birthday party. Libby's mom and I were thrilled! Great idea girls! They wanted an emoji themed candy making party. Done.

The kids learned how to make chocolates and had a great time!

ZsaZsa was in town for the birthday celebrations but this is the only photo I have for some reason! A little play dough fun together! :)

Evelyn has started swim lessons again and is doing great!

Here is a little video of her learning to swim freestyle ("front crawl") - she is getting really good!

One rainy day we decided to go bowling and it turns out to be Evelyn's favorite thing ever!

I took this photo because the second M is me! I scored a 175 on the first game. Nick said that was really good so I wanted to document it!

Happy kids

Evelyn is becoming more and more independent. She sometimes gets her helmet on the right way ... and sometimes not quite! I got the giggles when I saw her.
