We have had the most amazing storm come through Portland from a typhoon in China. It has been so rainy and windy. It was rain down here in the city but turned into an early snow up the mountain! We decided to make the trek all the way up to the top of Mt. Hood to Timberline Lodge (where they filmed The Shining). The hotel was beautiful and the drive (while a little nerve racking at times - they hadn't plowed very well) was so much fun. The views were beautiful and Maddie had a blast playing in the snow with her big cousin Simon.

Maddie and Simon share a sweet tooth. Simon ordered hot cocoas with whipped cream, caramel and toffee pieces. They loved it!!!
It wouldn't be a trip to Timberline Lodge without some creepy Shining-like pix.

I wanted a picture of Evelyn in her little Russian hat. Simon took a couple pictures. What I really like though is that he managed to catch Maddie in the background sneaking up on him with a snow ball. Watch her in the background on these shots. Cracked us up!

I got some cute photos of Simon and Lucia in the snow. It was really beautiful.
Simon and Maddie had some fun with snowballs. As I was getting Maddie ready, Simon started building up his supply of snowballs ... to throw at his 5 year old cousin! Yeah. Boys will be boys no matter how old they get I guess.
In the end, he simply supplied her with the snow balls to throw at me!
Too funny

We had a wonderful time up the mountain. It was a perfect day! Much better than rain.
