Summer Is Here!

Well Summer is here and we have been busy busy! Tennis anyone?

We have started turning our garage into a playroom. It has taken a lot of effort but it is almost there! We can't wait to have a play space that is not the living room!! Woo hoo!

We have been playing a lot of board games and Maddy and I decided to play Scrabble one day. She is pretty good people!

She had a 7 letter word even! (originally it was loves then lovers then we discovered she could use her U too and tah dah!)

So ... yeah ... game was kind of over after that. :)

Maddy also managed to pull the Q and the X in one go. Poppa would be impressed with his great granddaughter!

Maddy has started a summer reading class just to keep up her reading and the bonus is that it is just down the street from a great park with an amazing fountain. We didn't bring our bathing suits or towels so we thought we would just touch the water with our hands. Yes. You can see where this story is going to end. (PS - I knew too but didn't care! :) It's summer after all!!)

They had lunch in the park too. Poor Evelyn is shivering because it is only 75 out and the water was SO cold! We ate, got dried off and changed into a hodgepodge of clothes I had in the car. We now have changes of clothes and towels in the car for the next surprise fountain visit!

The next day we went to the zoo. It was so much fun!

I needed to keep Evelyn awake on the ride home (so she could get a good nap in at home in her bed) so I gave her a granola bar. It ended the way you would expect.

The playroom is not quite done but we got the floor in and so it is open now. Maddy comes down every morning and starts reading in her reading chair. Be still my teacher heart!

Amy found out that the girls love cats and sent them each a small cat to have. The girls were in love right away! Now we need some kind of homing device because we can NEVER find them at nap or bed time ... and they are so small!!! :)

Maddy's Daisy troop had their end of year celebration at Oaks Park (an amusement park right across the river from us). The girls had SO much fun. Maddy even rode the Screaming Eagle a couple times. I was almost sick watching her every time. I preferred the slide. :)

Evelyn and I ran to Old Navy one day while Maddy was at reading. She was obsessed with the little mannequin that was her size. She gave her kisses and hugs. Too cute.

Well ... this winter was so mild and beautiful. We are now paying for it with a heat wave. It is hotter here than TEXAS!! It was in the high 90's all week and even hit 100! We decided that you can't beat the heat so we went to the fountain by our house. There was nobody there! It was perfect!

I even got to sit in the shade with the lavender. Pretty nice set up if you ask me!

A new bakery opened in our neighborhood. The girl at the counter is very Portlandia.
