A MidWinter Swim

Janny, Margretta and the gang all met us at Mission Bay this afternoon for a little fun. Again, it looks very late, but it is only 3:30.

Maddie had so much fun with everyone, digging in the sand.

She tried out her gum boots for the first time ... they worked perfectly.
Then she noticed that everyone else had their shoes off, so she wanted hers off too.

What a beauty.
Not a bad view.
Maddie noticed some boys in the water and decided to wade out a little bit too. The guys were probably practicing for Sunday's "MidWinter Swim" where a bunch of silly folks jump in the ocean in the middle of July. Don't ask me why.

What is missing is the next even. Maddie started to wade in a little more ... and a little more ... until she was up to her tummy (yes, there were 4 mothers on the beach and we missed it ... 2 year olds move quickly). Just as she started to turn around realizing she had gone too far, she started to tip. Nana ran in there quick as can be, swept her up and we ran her to the car. We dried her off, changed her clothes and warmed her up. She was not worried in the least. Her own little MidWinter Swim.
